Vietnam & The Hands Behind the Jewellery

Vietnam & The Hands Behind the Jewellery

Back in April we had the opportunity to visit the workshop where some of our jewellery is made. It was really special to see the process up close and finally meet some of the people we have been communicating with for so long.

When you look at a piece of jewellery, it’s easy to see only the finished result. But behind every piece are many hands, small details and hours of craftsmanship.

I’m still, for some reason, surprised by how much of the jewellery-making process is done by hand. Even with modern machinery and technology, there are so many steps that rely on skilled hands, patience and a good eye for detail.

As a small, independent jewellery brand, having a good relationship with our suppliers is incredibly important to us. We’re not a large company placing thousands of pieces at a time, so finding a supplier who understands where we are as a start-up, and is willing to work with us as we grow, means a lot.

We’ve built a really good communication with the team, and during our visit they were incredibly welcoming and generous with their time. They showed us around the workshop, explained different parts of the production process and gave us a better understanding of everything that goes into making a piece of jewellery.

And because we wanted to share a little more of what happens behind the scenes, some of the employees kindly filmed parts of their working process for us.

From the first stages of working with the metal to the finishing touches, the video gives a small glimpse into the craftsmanship behind the pieces you see at Kanqvist.

For us, jewellery is not just about the finished object. It’s also about the people, skills and relationships behind it.

So here’s a little look behind the scenes, from our visit in May to the hands that help bring our designs to life.

Our Visit to Vietnam

At Adora Mira Sky in Ho Chi Minh

Day 1: Our arrival in Ho Chi Minh
Day 2: Visit supplier
Day 3: Day trip to Vũng Tàu

Our first visit to the manufacturer! We were so excited to finally see where our jewellery is made and, most of all, to meet the people we had been writing to and getting to know from afar.

Breakfast - the older I get, the more I appreciate a warm Asian breakfast over the usual egg and bacon. Somehow, it just hits differently.

Back at the hotel for dinner.

The pool - Adora Mira Sky

A short trip Vũng Tàu, located about 95-120 km southeast of Ho Chi Minh City, known for its long sandy beaches, fresh seafood, and relaxed extended weekend getaway vibe.

It took almost three hours to get to Vũng Tàu, and because I booked our tickets way too late, we only had a few hours before heading back.

We quickly realised there wasn’t time to go far, and with no restaurants accepting foreign cards, we ended up pretty much stuck by the harbour where the ferry docked. So this view was basically all we got to see.

We didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, we literally spent the whole day on a ferry…
